Cannabidiol – Does It Have Any Therapeutic Effects?
CBD is one of the many compounds present in cannabis sativa and known as cannabinoids. For many years, researchers are looking and studying the therapeutic uses of CBD. When we say full spectrum CBD oil, it is the oil that contains CBD concentrations. However, the uses and concentrations of CBD oils vary.
Cannabidiol is a bit different than THC as it is not psychoactive in nature. In other words, CBD doesn’t alter the state of mind of a person on consumption. But it does produce some significant changes in the body and according to some research studies; it has some medical benefits as well.
Speaking of which, one of the studies investigated the CBD effects on the emotional and cognitive impairments induced by some BCCAO (bilateral common carotid artery occlusion) in mice.
During the study, a behavioral testing multi-tiered battery was used for 21 days, It was observed that BCCAO mice showed long-lasting functional deficits which were reflected by the increase in their anxiety-like behavior on day 9, also memory impairment from days 12 to 18 and lastly, despair like behavior on day 21.
With the treatment of short-term 10mg/kg CBD, the cannabinoid prevented the emotional and cognitive impairments, white matter injury and attenuated hippocampal neuro-degeneration and reduced glial response, which was induced by BCCAO.
Moreover, ischemic mice that were treated with CBD showed an increase in the hippocampal BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) protein levels.
In the hippocampus BCCAO animals, CBD also triggered promoted dendritic restructuring and neurogenesis. On the whole and as per the results of this study; Short-term CBD oil treatment demonstrated the results in the form of global functional recovery with regards to ischemic mice while impacting distinct and multiple targets that are involved in the pathophysiology of brain’s ischemic injury.
How CBD Works:
If you have been using CBD oil, you must be wondering about how it actually works on your body. In fact, CBD and all other cannabinoids produce significant effects in our bodies simply at attaching to some receptors.
Our bodies produce some amount of cannabinoids on its own. We also have two basic cannabinoid receptors known as CB1 receptors as well as CB2 receptors.
The CB1 receptor handles the brain movement and coordination, emotions, pain and mood, memories, thinking, appetite, and other similar functions. CB2 receptors are common in the immune system and affect pain and inflammation.
At one point in time, researchers believe that CBD attaches to CB2 receptors but now it appears that it does not directly attach to either receptor, instead of direct the human body to utilize more of its own cannabinoids.
Benefits of CBD Oils
CBD may be beneficial for your health in many ways;
It has anti-inflammatory properties being a natural pain reliever
CBD oil helps in drug withdrawals and to quit smoke
Once the effectiveness and safety of the CBD were studied, it was found that it helps in the treatment of epilepsy and FDA has approved its use in some particular rare conditions.
In addition to this, researchers are also studying the best CBD oil for pain effects on different neuropsychiatric disorders. CBD oil has anti-seizure properties and it offers a very low risk of side effects in people suffering from epilepsy. It also helps to treat different complications that are linked to epilepsy-like neuronal injury, neurodegeneration and psychiatric diseases.
The bottom line is, cannabis is considered legal for recreational and medicinal use in different parts of the world. At some places, CBD pain cream is approved as a hemp product and not to be used as medical marijuana. However, anyone planning to consume CBD should always first consult with a healthcare provider.
